About Onychomycosis and its treatment!
Onychomycosis or toenail fungus is the fungal infection of toenails. It can cause the toenails to discolor, thicken, split and disfigure. It is one of the most common diseases of nails which constitutes almost half of the nail abnormalities. It can affect both fingernails or toenails but infection of toenails are more common. Onychomycosis is caused by the dermatophytes which are also called tinea unguium. Painless separation of a nail from its nail bed is called Onycholysis which is a result of an injury.
Symptoms of Onychomycosis are:
A nail plate may have the yellow, cloudy or thickened appearance. They may become crumbly and rough or may separate from a nail bed. Patients with the Onychomycosis can experience psychosocial problems because of the nail appearance. This may particularly increased with the fingernails.
Causes of Onychomycosis are Candida, non dermatophytic and dermatophytes moulds. Non dermatophytic and candida moulds are frequently involved in subtropics and tropics with humid and hot climate.
For Onychomycosis cure you can use antifungal powders and topical ointments which can help contain the fungus infection. In case of the discomfort and pain the Onychomycosis treatment becomes very necessary. Treatment of Onychomycosis can take either half year or a few days. It totally depends how deep the infection is.
As you all know that prevention is better than cure. So, for toenail Onychomycosis prevention it is better to keep your nails clean and dry. You can change your shocks even 2-3 times if required. You can use the antifungal foot powder or spray. It is better to avoid the tearing or cutting the skin around toenails as this can be the entry point for the infection.
